PREVENTIVE GROUND CONSOLIDATION
Very often, an insufficient load bearing capacity of the ground hinders the
carrying out of applications which would modify the tensional equilibrium of
the structure. In any case, with an examination of the foundation ground
together with a check on the load variations to which the ground will be
subjected, it is possible to establish if applications will provide suitable
preventive operations on the ground or on the foundations.
For example, the addition of an extra floor to an existing building can
bring about an increase in the forces transmitted to the foundation ground,
such as to exceed its load bearing limits and then cause a subsidence in the
near or not too distant future.
In cases like this, the URETEK Deep Injections® method can be used
preventively. One must determine the load variations to which the ground
will be subjected and hence the load bearing level which must be reached.
The increase in load bearing capacity of the ground, obtainable with the
patented URETEK Deep Injections®, is immediate and verifiable by
penetrometric or pressure tests, immediately after the application.
It allows the foreseen work to proceed rapidly and with the certainty that
it will not compromise the stability of the building.
The URETEK Deep Injections® can also be used on ground yet to be built upon:
a typical case is the plinths of industrial buildings which, in
concentrating very high loadings, require a foundation ground with extremely
high load bearing capacity. If the foundation ground does not have
sufficient resistance, the URETEK Deep Injections® offers the simplest and
safest solution.
Among the advantages of the URETEK Deep Injections®, we underline the
possibility of localized applications, which can concern weak and deep
strata of earth exclusively. For example, if a weak stratum of earth is
discovered at a depth of 3.5 metres (11 ft), with a thickness of 50 cm (1,6
ft), it would be possible to act on this only, in carrying out a preventive
consolidation.
Preventive consolidation of a building during its restructuring.
Another useful application of the URETEK Deep Injections® concerns the
consolidation of the faces of an excavation.
Suppose that we want to construct a building in the immediate vicinity of
another construction.
The excavation for placing the foundations may endanger the stability of the
existing building. The URETEK Deep Injections® provides a solution to this
problem by operating preventively on the existing building in consolidating
its foundation ground before the excavation is begun.
The URETEK Deep Injections® can also be used to consolidate the faces of an
excavation in incoherent ground so as to avoid their falling in.
